A Turkish Firm is Awarded with Construction of Doha Metro :The tender for the four story Doha Metro, in Qatar, is awarded to Yapı Merkezi – STFA partnership at a price of 4.4 billion dollars.

When finished the Doha Metro will consist of four main lines and after the tender held for the “Gold Line” the contract is signed with STFA and Yapı Merkezi at a price of 4.4 billion dollars.

The Contract period is 54 months and the works are planned to be completed in August 2018.
In Qatar, a country with highest per capita income in the world will be hosting the World Soccer Cup in year 2022 and thus investment in construction projects is ongoing without slowing down. Many companies both in Turkey and all around the world are closely following the tenders being held in Qatar, which include investments in metro lines, underground stations, railways, stadiums, Shopping Centers, hotels, highways, bridges, immersed tunnels, reservoirs etc.

Below is a brief summary of the features of the “Gold Line” which is the project with highest volume in Doha Metro and will be constructed by Turkish Companies.

“Gold Line will connect the Eastern Part of the city with its Western Part, starting from the New Doha Airport. The project includes 32 km long tunnel with 7.15 m excavation diameter. About 128,000 tunnel segments will be used along the line. 6 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) will be used simultaneously for constructing tunnels. The architecture of the 13 underground stations will be of highest standards and the system will be equipped fully with the state of art electro-mechanical technology. 2.5 million cubic meters of excavation will be required only for station construction. A total of 1 million cubic meters of concrete with 120 years of life cycle will be used for the project.

It is planned to connect the city centers with major commercial areas and stadiums with the Doha Metro. It is explained that the Metro lines at the center of Doha are designed fully as underground metro lines, considering the densely populated areas of the city.

The Doha Metro line is planned to be 127 km long with 38 stations and will consist of four lines, the Red Line, Gold Line, Green Line and Blue Line.

The Qatar Railway Company “QRail” was established in 2011 for development of the railway industry in Qatar and will be responsible from construction and supervision of metro projects. Qrail is targeting to complete the railway projects and to upgrade the railway infrastructure in the country to world standard levels, by 2022, the year when Qatar will be hosting the FIFA Works Soccer Cup.
