skiing in Italy is getting better with Leitner

skiing in Italy is getting better with Leitner :The sportive, economic and touristic aspects of skiing in Italy have been discussed yesterday in Rosa Khutor. On Monday, February 17th at 3.30 pm there has been organized a panel discussion regarding skiing in connection with tourism and economics in the Casa Italia in Rosa Khutor.

Thanks to an agreement with the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) the Leitner group acts as official partner of the Casa Italia and has organized with the CONI a so-called round table on a chair made by LEITNER ropeways.

On the podium, there were Giovanni Malagò (President CONI), Flavio Roda (President of the Italian Winter Sports Federation FISI), Andy Varallo (Vize Presiden of Dolomiti Superski) as well as the skiing legend Gustav Thöni and the President of the Leitner Group Michael Seeber.

Giovanni Malagò started the discussion emphasizing the importance of the partnership with the Leitner group and explained: „This group of companies offers unique winter sports technologies and if we look at all players in the alpine sector, starting from sports clubs to tourism companies, we should give this sector a new impetus as it is very important for our country.”

Flavio Roda, President of FISI, noted the challenge of promoting winter sports and calls for concrete activities. The FISI places a special focus on the encouraging of young people: “Sport needs to start at school – targeted and sustainable projects need to create new impulses in order to also revitalize certain winter sports areas.”

Dolomit Superski is a very positive example of an enlivenment of a large-scale area. It is the world’s largest ski carousel offering 1.200 km of pistes and 450 ropeways. Dolomit Superski is a fusion of 12 valleys, which market themselves together. Andy Varallo accentuated that this concept should also be realized at national level. It would be important to invest in young people and not to fear new ski areas as e.g. in Eastern Europe. In fact, the growth of ski areas in these new winter sports centers should be seen as an opportunity for our country to get potential customers.

Michael Seeber, president of the Leitner group, pointed to the importance of the Olympic Games in Sotchi: „ If the organizers of these games are going to reach their aim and can inspire the Russian people for winter sports, then also Italy can benefit from this. But we absolutely need to invest in Italy, most of all in our young people. Let’s bring families and children back to the slopes in a strong collaboration with schools and associations.”

We also need national testimonials in skiing such as Gustav Thöni in order to stimulate a sportive, touristic and economical winter sports movement in Italy: “I recognized that skiing became a national sport in Italy during my sporting career. Italians discovered this sport thanks to me and also thanks to Alberto Tomba. Nowadays we have a great national team but we are missing a testimonial who gets national ski sport again back on track,” explained the four-time World Champion and Olympic winner Gustav Thöni.
