Russia Displays its prototype tram in Innoprom 2014 :Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) from Russia displayed its prototype tram in Innoprom 2014 industrial exhibition in Yekaterinburg on 9th July. This unusually styled tram, called Russia One or R1, was developed by Uraltransmash tram manufacturing subsidiary and rolling stock supplier of Uralvagonzavod. The design agency OKB was also a partner of the company in designing this tram.

This low floor tram is 24 m long and 2500 mm wide. It has three sections and two bogies. The train can operate in lines with curves down to 16 m radius.

The body consists of composite material and the color and coating is said to be chosen to reflect the semi-precious stones of Urals. The mirror effect is said to produce an integral and harmonious part with the city scape.

The designers stated that the R1 aims to highlight Russia’s transport engineering capabilities. The design of the driver cab intends to improve the view of the driver and reduce glare.

The air-conditioned interior features Glonass and GPS-based passenger information, wi-fi, and antibacterial handrails. Regenerated braking energy could be used to heat the entrance areas to prevent icing, and battery power could be used for catenary-free operation.
