Ropeway to Uludağ will commence revenue operation in May, Bursa:Mr. Recep Altepe, Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, participated in the trial run of the new ropeway to Uludağ and has announced that this modern ropeway will commence revenue operation by the end of May.

The metropolitan municipality has renovated the old ropeway of the city with a state of art system. Mayor Recep Altepe, is devoted to ensure a more comfortable and practical transportation system to Uludağ, one of the major ski resorts in the country and thus has participated in the trial run of the new ropeway system, constructed to replace the old one. He boarded the cable car from Teferrüç and travelled to the Kadıyayla and Sarıalan stations and returned back.

Mayor Altepe explained that, besides the trial run being conducted in the system, works are continuing at a very high pace to complete the construction works in stations. He explained that “One of the symbols of our city, Bursa is Mounth Uludağ and the old ropeway was the most preferred means of transportation to this mountain. The old ropeway has served the city for a period of fifty years, from 1963 to 2013. Now we are renovating this old system and work is continuing on the system. Now with this gondola type system, our citizens will now be able to go to the top of the mountain in a more comfortable way.

“No queues”
Mayor Altepe has highlighted that the new system will have a higher capacity, compared to the old one and continued; “Now there will be no problems, no queuing when traveling with the ropeway. The headway will be 19 seconds and the travel time to the top will be 12 minutes. This is a much more comfortable ride, when you compare it with the 35 km road to the top of the mountain. We are now near the end of the project. Trial run is being conducted. Soon, people will be able to travel to the top of the mountain with this panoramic view.”

Service is starting by the end of May
Mayor Altepe, who travelled with the ropeway has announced that “about 1 month later the revenue operation will commence.”
He also explained that, later in the summer, they plan to extend the ropeway to the Hotels. He also highlighted that the new cable cars are more resistant to wind, when compared to the old ones. He stated that “the cabins can withstand a wind blowing at 75-80 kph. Thus, from now on, trips will not be cancelled because of wind. The new system is closer to the ground, so people who are scared of heights will feel more comfortable with this system. The cable car cabins have a capacity of 8 people, making the ride a very pleasurable one. This new system will certainly be a landmark in the city.”
