Remarkable change in the surrounding of Ankara Highway
In his speech, Mayor of Bursa has highlighted that the BursaRay Kestel line project did not just involve construction of a light rail system, but with construction of new intersections and bridges, car barriers and lighting along the Ankara Highway, the whole highway has had a remarkable change. He continued indicating that “When we started with this project, we had stated that, whatever is implemented on the West side of the city will also be implemented on the East side. Many did not believe us. However all our stations with escalators and elevators are extremely modern structures. The stations in this section have everything you can see in the stations on West line, and even more. We have brought quality to the East section of the city and now we are opening four stations to service. We will have two more stations commissioned next week, reaching the Kestel Intersection. With these new stations, our daily ridership will increase up to 350,000. When we double and then triple the frequency of service, we will be serving 1 million passengers per day. With this investment that cost 120 million Turkish Liras, including the landscaping, we now have added a total of 26 km of rail system line, to the 22 km Phase I constructed before our term. When we aimed this project, most did not believe that we could succeed, but now we are so happy that we have successfully reached Kestel. “

After the speeches in the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç cut the ribbon at the entrance of the Otosansit Station and then boarded the train together with Mayor Altepe and other members of the protocol, driving the train himself in the first passenger service.
