Opening of the Eskisehir – Gebze high speed line is delayed because of vandalism :Turkey, devoted to improve its railway network, was planning to open the Eskişehir –Gebze section on the Ankara İstanbul High Speed Train line in the first quarter of 2014. However with a statement made on 26th May the Transport Ministry had to announce that the opening of the line is delayed. It is officially confirmed that the delay is caused by some vandalism incidents along the line.

The referred section actually consists of a new 188 km alignment between Eskişehir and Köseköy and upgrading a 56 km conventional line between Köseköy and Gebze.

According to the reports from ministry, it is stated that damages are given to the signaling and communication equipment. 70 track circuits are stolen from 60 locations and about 200 sections of signaling and communication cabling have been cut or stolen. Ministry statement explained that this “has gone beyond a simple stealing and has become a systematic sabotage.” It is stated that the inauguration will take place in June.
