In March, USA railway transportation has increased, not being affected by the decline in steel delivery :According to American Association of Railways (AAR), in March this year the total traffic in USA railways, including intermodal and freight loading traffic has increased compared to that of March 2013.

Intermodal traffic in USA railways is recorded to increase by 9.9% or by 92,661, reaching a number of 1,025,907 trailers and containers. Thus, USA intermodal traffic has been increasing annually in the last 52 months. With an average of 256,477 trailers and containers per week, the traffic has reached the highest figure in all months of March. On the other hand total wagon loading has increased by 3.5 % or by 38,628 on annual bases, reaching a number of 1.156.697.

Head of AAR Policy and Economy unit, Mr. John T. Gray has explained that “after the average level observed in railway freight transportation in February, we have observed a peak increase in March. Especially transportation of cereals have increased considerably. Railways is working very hard to transport the highest volume of cereals in USA history. This has been observed only twice in the last two years. Statistics in March show that the intermodal traffic record observed in 2013 will be broken in 2014.
