Lusail Light Rail Transit : Lusail is a visionary development of the State of Qatar, master-planned by Qatar Diar, to become a unique state-of-the-art city in Qatar, the region, and worldwide.

This new ambitious waterfront city is being developed North of Qatars capital city of Doha and will be one of the largest and most elaborate developments undertaken around the world. Lusail extends over 35 square kilometres of land and is destined to house approximately 200,000 people. It will encompass not only new residential, commercial, and retail opportunities, but a full array of community facilities, complete with schools, medical facilities, entertainment and shopping centres.

Qatar Rail is in the process of constructing the Light Rail Transit (LRT). This system will support and integrate the intricacies of the multi-layered program for Lusail. It will satisfy the Lusail developer’s vision to create an integrated transportation system to serve the visitors, employees and residents of Lusail. The intention being to not only to enhance the capacity and efficiency of movements within Lusail, but to provide opportunities to create a more dynamic and ‘eco-sensitive’ urban environment.

The Lusail Light Rail Transit is planned to be:

– Four (4) lines.

Approximately 15 km of at-grade revenue, double track and 5.5 km of at-grade non-revenue single track, 10 km of underground double track (cut and cover) sections, District with an underground storage south of the line.

Twenty Five (25) stations at-grade in various configurations (centre platform, side platforms and split side platforms).

Seven (7) underground stations, 4 at Marina District,1 at Entertainment City, 1 at Energy City, 1 at Qatar Petroleum District and one (1) at the Pearl (Doha) Station.

One (1) viaduct to accommodate LRT patronage including satisfying passenger connection to the regional (Doha) railway with the station.

One (1) LRT Depot operation, Maintenance and Storage facility and test track. Included in this vision, the LRT is expected to utilise cutting edge technology that supports using ‘Catenary free’ train power service.

It is envisaged that the LRT system shall be integrated within the Qatar National Railway network with connections to the Qatar Rail Doha Metro system at Pearl City station and Al-Khor highway.
