Isolux Corsán wins US$100mn metro contract in Chile :Spain’s Isolux Corsán has been awarded the construction contract for a section of Chile’s new metro line 3 in Santiago for 75mn euros (US$100mn), the company said in a statement.

The project entails building a 3.7km tunnel under the heart of the Chilean capital, three stations, five circular shafts and two rectangular shafts over a period of 28 months.

The stretch will pass under the Mapocho river and lead to Plaza de Armas in the city center.

Isolux Corsán has participated in the construction of high-speed railway infrastructure in Spain. In Latin America, the company is building line 4 of the São Paulo metro, and operates highways in Brazil and Mexico.

Line 3, a US$1.72bn project, will be 22km long and have 18 stations, running from Ñuñoa in eastern Santiago to Huechuraba in the north of the city. The line will go through six municipalities and serve some 660,000 residents.

It is expected to start operating in 2018.
