The first consists of the construction of section 3 of Line 3 of the Santiago de Chile Metro, a complex project requiring a 3.7 km tunnel excavated by NATM under the heart of the Chilean capital and crossing the Mapocho River to lead to Plaza de Armas , just a few meters away from the Cathedral and Palacio de la Moneda.

The project, with a planned investment of €75 million, will include the construction of the tunnel, three stations, five circular shafts and two rectangular shafts over a period of 28 months.

The Client, Metro, SA, valued the experience of Isolux Corsán in the execution of the Austrian tunnelling method, particularly as performed in line 5 of the Barcelona Metro.

The 3,295 metres of the interstation tunnels and tunnels of the stations will be performed using this method, previously executing a protection umbrella. Once on the excavation has been completed, it will be reinforced with projected layers of different thickness, reinforced with wire mesh and cross-linked concrete frames. After the breakthrough of the interstation tunnel, the company will execute the reverse finishing of the tunnel and stations, ending with the execution of the platforms for the stations Hospitales, Puente Cal y Canto and Plaza de Armas.

These actions are part of the Metro Project, a plan to improve the entire underground network in Santiago, and is considered the most important in the history of the Chilean company and one of the largest infrastructure milestones of this country.

The Country Manager in Chile, Álvaro Frutos, expressed his satisfaction with the award, saying, “This is new challenge that strengthens presence of Isolux Corsán in Chile”.

The second of the contracts signed by the Group includes the construction of a school building and administration centres of the Santiago de Chile University (USACH), with a price tag of €13 million and to be completed within 12 months. The building, a post-tensioned structure, will have 3 underground floors and 8 above ground, with a total floor space of over 10,000 m2. The finish of the facade will be screened with a combination of concrete and curtain wall.
