The rolling stock company will supply the cars sequentially from April 2016. The cars will be deployed in Seongnam-Yeoju Line and Donghae Nambu Line (East Coast South) to be open in the second half of 2016.

Seongnam-Yeoju Line will connect between Pangyo in the southern outskirts of Seoul and Yeoju through Gwangju and Gonji-am. Donghae Nambu Line is being built to relieve the traffic congestion problem in Busan and Ulsan.

The latest order is the first of its kind since a scheme to require type approval for train cars for safety that went into effect in March this year. Accordingly, Hyundai Rotem will have to be responsible for maintenance and repair for the cars until the durability year has expired.

A Hyundai Rotem official said, “In order to reduce cost related to maintenance, we will try to import-substitute most of the parts and components except a few items not available for domestic production.
