France is forced to adapt its platforms for the new generation trains

France is forced to adapt its platforms for the new generation trains :France is planning to modify its station platforms to adapt them for the new generation trains.

France has invested considerably for the new regional trains, the Alstom Régiolis and Bombardier Régio 2N trains, but it has become clear that the clearances at various stations are insufficient. Since the trains will be in service by the end of 2016, France is now planning to implement an emergency program.

A total of 341 new generation trains (182 Régiolis and 159 Régio 2N sets) will be put in service. These new trains are wider than the previous generation so, the platform faces need to be modified.

The cause for this problem was explained by RFF, which accepted the responsibility. They have stated that inaccurate data was given to SNCF, which was responsible from procurement of the trains. When the problem was discovered, it was too late to remedy it. The result is modification of 1300 platform faces, which is estimated to cost about €50 m.
