Canada to reinforce their safety regulations on railway

Canada to reinforce their safety regulations on railway :Decisive to improve safety across the railway network in Canada, following a train derailment accident in Quebec, in July 2013 Canada has issued an emergency directive under section 33 of the Railway Safety Act. To reinforce this act, now the Canada Transport Minister Lisa Raitt has proposed new regulations to penalize railway companies that violate the Railway Safety Act.

With the series of new rules and amendments, the improved regulation in Canada will allow Transport Canada to monitor whether the railway companies are compliant with rules, regulations and standards through audits and inspections, as well as taking appropriate action as required.

Transport Canada will also be able to fine railway companies for not submitting required safety management system information to the minister, failing to provide proper notice prior before conducting certain types of rail work and failing to have work approved by a professional engineer.
