CAF-Led Consortium is awared for Mexico Raiilway Project :A consortium led by Spanish engineering firm CAF won the main tender for the Mexico City-Toluca railway.The 13.6bn-peso (US$993mn) contract involves the provision of trains, rail and communication infrastructure, ticketing facilities and associated services.

The transport and communications ministry (SCT) awarded the contract, for which CAF and partners Construcciones Ferrovías y Subsistemas, Thales, Corsan-Corvian Construcción, Isolux and Construcciones Urales had presented the lowest bid.

A consortium formed by Alstom, OHL subsidiary Constructora de Proyectos Viales de México and Indra Sistemas de México also bid on the project, as did a group comprising Bombardier Transportation México and Sacyr Construcción de México

The contract is the rail project’s largest.

In recent months a 10.1bn-peso civil works contract for the Zinacantepec-Marquesa stretch was awarded, as was a 2.86bn-peso contract to build a tunnel.

In December a contract to carry out civil works on the Santa Fe-Observatorio section of the project is due to be awarded.

The Mexico City-Toluca passenger train line will extend 57.7km and require total investment of around 38bn pesos.
