Bombardier receives US$26M for half dozen LRVs in Austria :Vienna, Austria—Bombardier Transportation has received a US$26-million order from Linz, Austria, for its FLEXITY trams, the fifth order placed by the northern Austrian city in 14 years.

According to Bombardier, it will deliver six FLEXITY low-floor trams for use on a rail extension to Traun, Austria, southwest of Linz.

Known as Cityrunners, the trams have been operating in Linz since 2001.

“The long-standing cooperation between Bombardier and LINZ AG LINIEN has been excellent for years,” LINZ AG LINIEN executive director Erich Haider said in a statement.

“Leading-edge technology trams stand for safety, comfort, energy efficiency and design at its best. I look forward to putting another six Cityrunners into service on the tram extension to Traun.”

The FLEXITY trams are 40 metres long, 2.3 metres wide and can accommodate 224 passengers.

Bombardier will manufacture the trams at its Vienna site, with delivery of the first vehicles scheduled for mid-2015.
