Alstom and QDVC win the Lusail tram contract :QATAR: Qatar’s railway project promotor, Qatar Rail has awarded the Alstom and QDVC Consortium with the main contract for the construction of tram network in the city of Lusail. On 23rd June the contract was signed in Paris in the presence of Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and French President François Hollande

The city of Lusail is a city near the sea to the north of Doha and is being developed. It is aimed to connect the Lusail Light Rail Transit Network with the future Doha Metro and national rail networks. The Lusail network will have four lines, the Green, Red, Purple and Yellow Line. The line is planned to be 33 km long with 7 km being underground. There will be 37 stops. Also 1 depot will be constructed as maintenance and storage facility and will have a test track. The €2 billion contract is signed for the Yellow line.

Alstom’s share of the contract is worth €450m, and includes trackwork, signalling, substations, catenary, the APS ground-level power supply system and 35 Citadis trams.

Civil works partner QDVC is a 51:49 joint venture of Qatari Diar and Vinci Construction Grands Projets. QDVC began earthworks for the cut-and-cover tunnels in 2009, and in 2011 was awarded a €374m design and build contract covering the eight underground stops, a viaduct over a motorway and preliminary works for the depot.
