The Ankara İstanbul High Speed Train construction is near the end. Mr. Süleyman Karaman, General Director of State Railways have stated that the construction works of the line planned to be opened in March have been completed and they are conducting the test runs. He stated that “Once the measurements and certification tests are completed we will start carrying passengers and this date might be 29th of May”. Mr. Karaman stated that the line will be connected to the Marmaray in 2015 and reach Halkalı. He continued stating that “Once the line is in revenue operation, the travel time between Ankara and İstanbul will be 3.5 hours. At first stage we will have 16 trips per day. Once connection is made with Marmaray, the headway will be 15 minutes or half an hour. We also made a survey to determine the fare price. We asked people “what ticket price would you like to have, to prefer the High Speed Train?”. All stated that, they would prefer the HST if the price is 50 Turkish Liras and 80% said they would prefer HST even when the ticket price is 80 TL. We need to assess the survey to determine the fare level. Once the tests are completed, we will start passenger service.
