Veteran Vossloh looks to next Etihad Rail stages

German rail group Vossloh, an experienced player in the region’s railway sector, has the next stages of Etihad Rail in its sights as it builds on convincing project wins in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Dubai-based Frédéric Milliet, director of Vossloh Middle East, said: “We have plenty of existing projects, especially in Saudi and the UAE, but we have a bit everywhere, including in Iraq and Iran.”

“We are targeting all the railway projects, including conventional railways, high-speed, tram and metros, focusing on the main contractors, consultants and the final customer, the railway networks.”

Having manufactured rail components since 1883, the German group now provides both track elements and rolling stock, supplying both shunting and main line locomotives.

In Saudi Arabia, where Vossloh started to work in the 70s, “there are always new projects,” said Milliet, and the group is currently providing switches and fastening systems for Kingdom lines.

Vossloh began working in the UAE in 2007 with the supply of switches for the Dubai Metro, and is currently delivering around 100 switches and the fastening systems for the first stage of Etihad Rail.

Milliet continued: “We hope of course to be successful for the remaining stages of Etihad Rail, phase two and phase three, but we are looking also at Qatar of course, like everybody – first the metro, but of course we are looking at everything else, future conventional lines, etc.”

Frédéric Milliet will be holding a seminar at Middle East Rail 2013 on high-speed grinding technology.
