US govt seeks rail opportunities in Mexico

The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has published a tender for the evaluation of rail project opportunities in Mexico, according to a notice on the US federal business opportunities website.

The winning bidder will be required to assess funding opportunities relating to railroad equipment including development of a national asset management system and a financing plan for equipment purchases, railroad infrastructure needs to accommodate the transportation of various oil and gas products, environmental technologies for the development of green railroad infrastructure and the development of a national railroad training center.

The projects are designed to support development of Mexico’s freight rail system rather than the passenger rail projects currently being studied by the ministry of transport and communications, SCT.

Over the next few years railroad companies are planning to invest US$700mn in the expansion of rail networks, maintenance of rail infrastructure, the purchase of new equipment and training, according to the notice.

The contract price will be approximately US$50,000 and proposals must be submitted by June 27.

The consultancy services are expected to last for one year.
