Thales to modernise Warsaw Okecie-Radom railway line

Thales to modernise Warsaw Okecie-Radom railway line : The consortium led by Thales with Trakce has signed a modernisation contract valued at over €76 million (316 million PLN) with PKP PLK, the Polish rail infrastructure operator.

The railway line from Radom to Warsaw Okecie is approximately 100 km long and is used by several thousand people travelling to work every day. The modernisation project has been long awaited by the citizens of Radom as current travel from Warsaw to Radom takes more than two hours by train. The modernisation will enhance safety, increase the capacity of the line and enable trains to run at speeds of up to 160 km/h, reducing journey times by half.

“This project is another important step in improving the railway infrastructure in Poland. We are delighted to have won this important contract, further strengthening our position on the Polish railway market. This latest award follows another recent success in Poland, where Thales is part of the consortium chosen to modernise the 350 km E65 line linking Warsaw and Gdynia,” said Pawel Piotrowski, Thales Country Director in Poland.

This project concerns train management systems including signalling and supervision. The consortium is responsible for design and construction of systems including control centres, maintenance and diagnostic centres, interlocking systems and axle counters, telecommunications, passenger information systems and CCTV.
