Strukton acquires Balfour Beatty’s Scandinavian Railway Company

Strukton acquires Balfour Beatty’s Scandinavian Railway Company : Oranjewoud N.V. announces today that subsidiary Strukton Rail B.V. signed for the acquisition of Balfour Beatty Rail Scandinavia, including all current operations in Sweden and Denmark. Strukton Rail will continue all operations under the name of Strukton Rail. The Swedish Competition Authority has permitted the transaction. No permission from the Danish competition authorities is required because of the limited size of the transaction in Denmark. The financial close will be at the beginning of 2014.

Strukton Rail has been operating in Sweden for more than ten years now and built up broad experience with the maintenance, renewal and construction of rail systems in Sweden and Denmark. The company booked good results in those countries in the past years. With the acquisition of Balfour Beatty Rail Scandinavia, Strukton Rail strengthens its geographical presence within the railway market nationwide in both Sweden and Denmark with the aim of adding value to its customers across the Scandinavian market. Major customers are Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, Sweden’s railway manager Trafikverket, and the Danish railway manager Banedanmark.

Major projects in Scandinavia that Strukton Rail is currently working on include the Citybanan in Stockholm (construction) and the S-Bane in Copenhagen (CBTC trainguard system). Strukton Rail is also responsible for the maintenance of various railway lines in Sweden, both in Stockholm and in other areas. Balfour Beatty Rail Scandinavia and Strukton Rail already joined forces in 2011 for the maintenance of the Stambanan in Norrland (North of Sweden).
Balfour Beatty Rail Scandinavia is involved in the installation of the ETCS infrastructure across the Fjernbane West and East lines in Denmark.

“Strukton Rail and Balfour Beatty Rail Scandinavia have been active in the same Scandinavian market for a long time. We share knowledge and expertise, but we also complement each other within some technique areas. Under a common flag we will be able to offer our customers a strong and broad range of services and products, with the aim to be one of the foremost suppliers in the rail sector in Sweden and Denmark.”
Robert Röder, Strukton Rail’s managing director in Scandinavia
