Stagecoach, Serco and Go Ahead bid to run Docklands Light Railway

COMPANIES including Stagecoach and Go Ahead are bidding to run the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) from next year.

The current franchise, operated by Serco, was originally due to expire in March but was extended until next September due to planning for the Olympics.

Serco and Stagecoach Rail Projects have thrown their hats in the rings with joint ventures by Keolis and Amery Rail along with Go Ahead and Colas Rail also bidding.

The DLR marked its 25th birthday in 2012 and the past year saw it carry a record-breaking 100 million passengers.

DLR acting director Rory O’Neill said: “We are pleased to further consider the bids from these companies which have passed the first stage of the rigorous process in issuing a new franchise.

“The DLR is already a highly successful railway but we are not complacent and wish to ensure that the service offered to Londoners continues to improve.”
