Stadler Rail AG praises progress in Belarus electric transport project

The top executives of the Swiss Stadler Rail Group have praised the progress made in the implementation of the investment project to produce rail and urban passenger electric transport in Belarus, Stadler Rail AG Director General Peter Spuhler said as he met with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 4 April.

According to Mr Spuhler, the major task is to deliver the first double-deck railcars for the Russian Railways by December 2014.

The Swiss businessman thanked the President for the opportunity to meet and discuss the project: “I have come not for raising any issues.” He emphasized that the project is good and is being successfully implemented.

“We feel solid support from the government and the authorities of Minsk Oblast. There were some two or three insignificant problems which we were able to address very quickly,” Mr Spuhler said.

He also noted that the victory at the tender that was held in Russia for the supplies of electric railcars is of utmost importance for the company. “We are glad that these trains will be assembled and produced in Belarus. I think this project is very important for Minsk as well. We will be able to produce both commuter trains and double-deck railcars at the Belarusian plant,” he noted.
