Russian Railways Logistics begins delivery of aluminium rail parts to Ural Locomotives

Russian Railways Logistics (RZDL) has commenced delivery of aluminium spare parts produced by Jilin Midas Aluminium Industries from its Liaoyuan warehouse in China to Ural Locomotives plant in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

Under the project, the company is carrying a total of 134.5t of aluminium through the border crossing point Zabaikalsk-Manchuria.

Following delivery, the aluminium panels will be utilised to manufacture the body of high-speed train ‘Lastochka’ based on Desiro-Rus series.

The deal will also see Russian Railways Logistics organise up to 100 shipments for Ural Locomotives until 2015.

Ural Locomotives, a joint venture of Sinara Group and Siemens, manufactures electric freight locomotives using asynchronous traction on the basis of Ural Railway Engineering Plant.

The move is part of a EUR2.1bn contract signed between Russian Railways, Sinara and Siemens to transport 1200 electric wagons ‘Lastochka’ of Desiro-Rus series by Russian Railways in the period of 2015 to 2020.
