Premier to open lifts at Cardiff railway station

After a 20 year community campaign, lifts at Cardiff railway station will be switched on by the NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell later this morning.

The lifts are part of a $14 million upgrade which also includes improvements to the carpark and a platform extension to cater for eight carriages.

Both of those are due to open in coming weeks.

Charlestown MP Andrew Cornwell says the improvements are long overdue.

“Cardiff is effectively the demographic centre of the Hunter Valley,” he said.

“It’s adjacent to the Cardiff industrial estate which is the largest employment hub within the Hunter and the Glendale region which we’re going to see enormous growth in in the next decade.”
