PLK received Poland first ETCS permissions :PKP Polish Railway Lines (PLK) received Poland’ first ETCS (European Train Control System) permissions – the company has informed in its announcement.

Railway Transport Office (UTK) chairman has issued the first ETCS permission in Polish railway history on a Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie route on November the 21, 2013.

PKP PLK structural subsystem permissions received: steering – ERTMS/ETCS level 1 railway devices installed at E65 railway line – PKP rail line 4 on Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie route. Railway ERTMS/ETCS level 1 system is a journey control system with a punctual data transmission, providing a continuous train drive control. Railway devices are destined to download indicators signals safely and process the data into adequate telegram pattern, sending the data through transmission devices installed in specified railway lines points to on-board ERTMS/ETCS system devices.

ETCS is a part of EU implemented ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System), designed to provide railway transport interoperability – unrestricted train movement ability in particular countries railway networks, without the necessity of stopping and locomotive replacement while crossing the border, maintaining highest safety standards at the same time.

According to the certificate issued by the Institute of Railroads the system is compatible with Technical Specifications for Interoperability and meets safety requirements.
