PLK to modernize over 400 level crossing :Equipping 400 railroad crossings with new signalization and better road surface will increase safety and comfort for train passengers as well as drivers. PKP Polish Railways intensify works on safety at railroad crossings – informed the company in its communicate.

PLK as the infrastructure manager prepare works within two so called “crossing projects”. Together 400 crossing will be refurbished. Works include i.a. installing an automatic crossing signalization, which will additionally warn the drivers, also used up grade-crossing gates will be replaced with new ones. All works will end in the second half of 2015.

The programme includes road-railway crossing in all of Poland. Renovation qualification included local environment, changing road situation – significant amount of cars or trains on railroads.
Within the investment i.a. five crossing from Warsaw to Bialystok, six on the line from Tarnowskie Gory to Opole and 4 on the route from Koszalin to Goleniow.
The project will support rebuilding the crossings on the modernized connections from Wroclaw to Poznan, Krakow to Rzeszow and Czestochowa to Opole.

Recently refurbishments on crossings in Wejherowo, Goldapi and Twarda Gora have ended. This year concrete boards will be replaced with a special rubber surface on the crossing in Wielun. PLK constantly monitors crossings and provide ad-hoc reparations. In many places, for example Dolnyslask, Opolskie or Zachodniopomorskie the surface of renovated objects is replaced with a more resistant to heavy vehicles, which especially deteriorate the pavement.

Poland has over 13 000 railway crossings. Except technical actions PKP PLK runs a constant social campaign on safety. Safe crossing – “Stop and live!”. PKP PLK program concerning safety level increase consists of over 170 initiatives.
