Plans for £26m Rochester railway station released

Proposals for a new £26m Rochester railway station in Kent have been published by Network Rail.

The station, which would be situated at Corporation Street in Rochester, is due to be completed in winter 2015.

Network Rail expects to submit a formal planning application to Medway Council this spring – it has already been confirmed that the site will hold three platforms as well as retail, cycle racks and car parking facilities.

Fiona Taylor, route managing director for Kent, said: “The proposed new station will deliver a huge boost to Rochester and Medway.

“The development will also help kick-start the wider regeneration of the Riverside area, which is an important part of the development of Rochester.

Councillor Rodney Chambers, Medway Council leader and regeneration lead, added that it would significantly improve the service for existing users.

The new train station in Rochester forms part of Network Rail’s east Kent signalling project, which envisages the company investing a total of £135m in the region’s railways by winter 2015.
