Pioneer Railcorp subsidiary acquires rail line from Maumee and Western Railroad
Michigan Southern Railroad, a subsidiary of Pioneer Railcorp, has acquired a rail line formerly operated by the Maumee & Western Railroad (MAW).
Michigan Southern Railroad said that it will operate MAW as the Michigan Southern Railroad (MSO) doing business as Napoleon, Defiance & Western Railway.
MSO will operate about 51 miles of track from Woodburn, Indiana to Liberty Center, Ohio, US.
As part of the deal, the Napoleon, Defiance & Western Railway will maintain six full time employees in the Defiance area.
Pioneer Railcorp president and CEO Mike Carr said that the company is planning to restore two sections of track – from Napoleon to Liberty Center and west of Defiance to Cecil – that would provide all shippers on the line connections to multiple Class 1 carriers for access to the North American rail system.
“We intend to explore all options available to complete these objectives as quickly and efficiently as possible,” Carr said.
