New MCFC Metrolink Matchday Season Ticket

MANCHESTER City football fans are soon to benefit from a matchday public transport season ticket under a new initiative launched by Metrolink.Manchester City and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have teamed up to create the new Metrolink Matchday season ticket, which MCFC season ticket holders can buy for the upcoming 2013/14 season.

Valid from any of the tram network’s 64 tram stops, the new scheme will allow season ticket holders to travel to-and-from the new Etihad Campus station for all nineteen of the club’s home matches and all home cup matches in all competitions. Prices are £70 for adults and £30 for children (aged between five and sixteen). To gain some price perspective, if the scheme had been in place this season for all of City’s 26 home games in all competitions, an adult would have paid £2.70 and a child £1.15 return for each game.Currently, an adult return ticket from Altrincham to the Etihad is £6.70, from Eccles £5.20 and £3.70 from Piccadilly Station. The only real downside to the new scheme is that these travel season tickets can ONLY be purchased alongside MCFC season tickets.

TfGM’s Metrolink Director, Peter Cushing, said: “Manchester is the most famous footballing city in the world and the game contributes millions (£330 million in 2010-11) to the local economy every year. We’re proud that Metrolink offers a fast, frequent and reliable matchday service for football fans travelling across the region.“We are delighted that Manchester City is on board with our drive to get matchday traffic off the roads and on to our trams. The new Metrolink season ticket offers great value for money and a hassle free journey to the Etihad.”
