The work will take place on considerable sections of the Acton Main Line to Maidenhead in preparation for the Crossrail route in the area.

A separate contract has been awarded to Balfour Beatty for the provision of overhead line equipment.

The company will be responsible for the installation of overhead equipment between Airport Junction and Maidenhead across all the tracks facilitating the delivery of Crossrail and high-speed Intercity Express trains on the Great Western route.

Great Western’s route to Swansea is being electrified as part of a wider development programme that will result in electric services operating from late 2016.
