Marmaray Sirkeci Station in Istanbul is opened :Marmaray is the railway connection between European and Asian Istanbul via a tunnel beneath the Bosphorus. It was opened on Republic Day of Turkey, 29 October 2013. Since this day Marmaray is successfully operated by TCDD except Sirkeci Station. The Bosphorus Tunnel that runs beneath the Bosphorus, joining the stations at Yenikapı and Sirkeci in Europe with the stations at Uskudar and Ayrılık Cesmesi in Asia. This makes it possible to cross from Old Istanbul in Europe to Üsküdar in Asia.

Sirkeci Station is totally underground station. Station is designed not to limit areas to be occupied at the surface and to minimize impact on historical buildings. Sirkeci Station is opened on 03.12.2013 by TCDD. It is being operated nearly one month after opening of Marmaray but the station is fully functional now. It is also the deepest station og Marmaray. The new underground stations at Yenikapı, Sirkeci, Üsküdar, and Ayrılık Çeşmesi is making it easy for Marmaray passengers to connect to Istanbul’s Metro, city bus, tram and ferryboat networks. The suburban trains on the Europe and Asian have been stopped to allow their routes to be integrated into the new Marmaray system.
