Lebanon Rail Trail Closed Due to I-89 Construction

Lebanon Rail Trail Closed Due to I-89 Construction : The section of the Northern Rail Trail that passes under Interstate 89 will be closed during the daytime for about a week starting yesterday as construction workers repair the bridge above it.

That section is expected to be closed from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day except Sunday due to safety concerns associated with falling debris, according to an alert from the City of Lebanon.

Workers from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation recently began work on an $11.9 million project that includes a broad spectrum of repairs along four miles of the interstate, including work on the deck of the bridge going over the rail trail. While walkers, runners and bicyclists on that part of the Rail Trail will be affected for about a week, drivers on the interstate will see the effects all summer: The I-89 high speed lane is being rerouted to the northbound side in that area, funneling drivers past exit 17. Motorists in the travel lane will still be able to get off at that exit.

Additional work to the interstate includes repairs to two other bridges, pavement rehabilitation, replacing guardrails and more. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall.
