HS2 opponents go to high court

HS2 opponents go to high court : Residents of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire will visit the High Court later to appeal a decision rejecting their challenges to the legality of the £33 billion High Speed 2 Railway Line.

Nine legal challenges against the plan to build a high speed railway line between London and Birmingham were thrown out in March.

Councillor Martin Tett, leader of Buckinghamshire County Council & chairman of the £51m alliance of local authorities opposed to HS2, said: “All we want is a full and fair assessment of the HS2 proposal and we hope the appeal court will ensure this happens so that the Government looks at it again”.

“When the case for HS2 is properly examined, it is shown to be lacking”.

The Government say the high speed line would bring much needed investment to the Midlands and the North of England.
