Design of $4 billion Fuzhou-Pingtan Railway passes inspection

Design of $4 billion Fuzhou-Pingtan Railway passes inspection  : The Fujian provincial development and reform commission recently reported that the design of the Fuzhou-Pingtan Railway – which is expected to cost 24.44 billion yuan ($4 billion) and to take five-and-a-half years to complete – passed the inspections of the China Railway Corporation and the Fujian government.

The planned railway is expected to handle 50 million passengers and 150 million tons of cargo per year, and is an expansion of Hefu Railway (Hefei-Fuzhou). It will begin in Fuzhou, pass Gushan Mountain, South Railway Station and Changle, and end on Pingtan Island after crossing the sea via a bi-purpose bridge for highway and railway.

The entire railway will span 88.43 kilometers and include six stations, and the design of I-level double tracks will allow trains to reach a speed of 160 km per hour between Fuzhou and South Railway Station, and 200 km per hour for the rest of the trip.
