Delivery of Saudi Arabia’s mega rail projects to be discussed at the Saudi Rail Forum this December in Riyadh :Under licence from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Saudi Rail Forum 2013 will take place from 1-3 December 2013 at the Radisson Blu in Riyadh.Saudi Arabia has embarked on one of the most ambitious railway development plans of the modern railway era. As set out in the Saudi Railway Master Plan (SRMP), Saudi Arabia will invest 365 billion SAR between 2010 and 2040 into railway infrastructure.

In addition to this, Saudi Arabia will invest in multiple metro transport projects to address traffic and public transport challenges. The most notable of these include Jeddah, Riyadh and Mecca which will all break ground between 2013 and 2015.

The Saudi Rail Forum will host local and international rail experts who will come together to discuss best practice in designing, delivering, maintaining and operating world class railways for the Kingdom.Featuring speakers from well respected and renowned organizations such as Jeddah Municipality, Fluor, Louis Berger, International Academy for Railway and Advanced Development (IRA), Institute of Railway Technology, Voestalpine, Coventry University and Institute for Infrastructure Studies, the forum will serve to support local rail professionals in delivering the next phase of mega rail projects.

Key themes to be addressed include managing the risks of project delivery, understanding why some projects out turn at higher costs than anticipated, why some projects do not always deliver the planned benefits, fixed infrastructure asset monitoring & rolling stock monitoring and the role of training and education in developing the expertise of local human resources.
