The construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will begin in 2014 :The construction works of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, a Trans-Asian railway project which for a long time has been on the agenda, will start in 2014.

Kanat Abdikerimov, the coordinator of the Kyrgyzstan Railway Project has announced that the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will begin in the next year. The length of the railway will be 270 km and the worth of the project is supposed to be 4 billion 500 million dollars. Although, at the moment there are two options which are still discussed: the construction of a railroad with a length of 257 km and total project worth of 4 billion 500 million dollars, or the construction of a railroad with a length of 430 km and total project worth of 6 billion 600 million dollars.

The project is expected to provide a significant contribution to the region’s economy. The project will be finally discussed on 13th September 2013 in Bishkek city within a meeting where the member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be present. The project is expected to generate annually for Kyrgyzstan an income of around 260 million dollars. The project will consist of 48 tunnels, 95 bridges and 4 stations will be located.
