Bombardier to supply 35 Talent 2 trains to Abellio Rail

Montreal-based train and plane maker Bombardier Transportation (TSE:BBD.B) Monday said it will supply 35 Bombardier Talent 2 trains to Germany’s Abellio Rail , in a deal worth about 172 million euros – or US$226 million.

Along with the 35 electric trains, the company said it will also provide a strategic spare part package to Abellio Rail. The trains will operate on the Saale-Thuringia-South Harz network in Germany.

Bombardier said it will supply 20 three-car and 15 five-car Talent 2 trains, with service expected to begin in December 2015.

The trains come equipped with the “energy efficient” Bombardier Mitrac 1000 propulsion and control system, the company noted, adding that one of the advantages of this system is that it allows the train to accelerate quickly to a constant speed.

The vehicles can also be adapted individually to the frequent acceleration and braking of commuter services and to the requirements of regional rail networks, Bombardier said in a recent release.

The Talent 2 trains are developed and manufactured at the company’s site in Hennigsdorf, Germany.

Bombardier designs, manufactures, sells and supports commercial and business jets, as well as rail transportation equipment, systems and services.
