Astaldi Awarded New Contract in Poland for the Krakow-Balice Railway

Astaldi Group has been awarded the contract worth EUR 50 million to build the new railway link in Poland connecting Kraków Central Station and John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice, already undergoing extension and modernisation by Astaldi.

The project envisages the upgrading to two tracks of the Kraków Central Station-Kraków Mydlniki section (currently a single track line) and construction of a new two track link (500 metres in length) from Kraków Mydliniki to the airport. The construction of 3 stations is also planned (Uniwersytet Rolniczy, Kraków Zakliki, Kraków Krzyżówka) as well as the upgrading of 2 existing stops on the section currently in operation (Kraków Łobzów, Kraków Balice). The planned duration of works is 18 months with the start-up of works in the second half of 2013.

The project has been commissioned by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. (Poland’s railway company).

This contract confirms Poland’s strategic importance for the Group that is currently involved in the aforementioned project to extend and modernise John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice (8,000,000 passengers/year), as well as in construction of the Bydgoszcz-Torun incineration plant (180,000 tons/year of treated waste, 100,000 MWh/year) and of Line 2 of the Warsaw underground (10 kilometres of tunnels, 7 stations) and the Łódź Widzew-Łódź Fabryczna railway line, (1.5 kilometres of tunnels) including Lodz Fabryczna underground station.
