With a large number of reference projects and over 220 transport technology firms, Berlin is the main focus of Germany’s transport engineering industry and an ideal venue for InnoTrans, an international platform for buyers and sellers of passenger and freight transport technology. InnoTrans has become established as an international industry showplace focusing on Railway Technology. A full range of rail vehicles are presented in static displays on the Messe Berlin tracks located outside the exhibition halls. Other key InnoTrans features include Railway Infrastructure, Interiors, Public Transport and Tunnel Construction.

About Us

The railway transportation which started in our country in 1866 was carried out by vehicles, all of which are imported and repair and maintenance works of which are performed by depending on foreign countries. This situation always led to the problems and interruptions in railway industry and resulted in the increase of the costs. The first facilities of TÜVASAŞ were commissioned so as to tackle these problems under the name of “Coach Repair Workshop” on 25 Oct. 1951.

The first coach was produced in 1962 in the establishment which had been turned into Adapazarı Railroad Factory (ADF) as of 1961.

As a result of the studies commenced on export activities in 1971, totally 77 coaches were exported to Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Manufacture was switched to the RIC type passenger coaches having international standards at the facilities which were named “Adapazarı Coach Industrial Establishment (ADVAS) in 1975.

As of 1976, manufacture of electrical powered suburban series with Alston firms licence has begun and totally 75 series (225 pieces) were manufactured and delivered to the Turkish State Railways.

Turkish Coach Industry Incorporation (TÜVASAŞ) which had attained its current status in 1985, focused on new projects by leaping forward on the matters of research and development and the engineering services as well as manufacture of passenger coaches and electrical powered series
Projects which were developed in 1990s were progressed and projects of rail buses RIC- Z type rail luxury coaches and TVS 2000 luxury coaches having air conditioning system, design of which belong to TÜVASAŞ, were completed. Their manufacture process has begun in 1994, as well.

The infrastructure studies were accelerated in 1995 in order to manufacture vehicles used in light rail transportation.
TÜVASAŞ, which started to render qualified service in terms of manufacturing and repairing processes of coaches through its team of experienced specialists, engineers and qualified employees also has completed manufacture of TVS 2000 type luxury Pullman coach satisfactorily in 1998.

Due to the Marmara earthquake on 17th, August 1999, TÜVASAŞ faced with a huge material damage. Workshops and infrastructure systems of the establishment which lost its manufacturing competence became dysfunctional and repair and manufacturing processes completely came to a halt.

As of April 2000, wreck removal studies began to be performed and TÜVASAŞ again began its manufacture and repair activities within a short time thanks to the great efforts of its personnel.

Within the framework of the cooperation with SIEMENS in 2001, assembling and commissioning works of 38 vehicles belonging to Bursa Metropolitan Municipality light rail vehicle fleet were performed at the facilities of TÜVASAŞ.

As of 2002, with the aim of bringing all types coaches in today’s trend with modern appearance and comfort through modular approach, M- Series (M10 Pullman-M70-dining coach and M80 coach with personal department), modernization coach projects were performed.

Manufacture of passenger coaches having 90 % home-made rate began between the period of 2003 and 2009 by making the semi- finished goods and equipment whose added value rate are high and whose knowledge and technology are intense become domestic. In recent years, TÜVASAŞ accelerated its coach export operations, generator coaches the manufacturing of which began in 2005 for Iraqi Railways were delivered on 28th, May, 2006. Therefore, TÜVASAŞ has gained a company identity which has the ability to export. TÜVASAŞ regained its corporate character having capacity to make export after 35 years interval. In 2008, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) which allows for monitoring and controlling all operational activities in the computer media was began to be implemented.

Between the years of 2008 and 2009, 84 pieces (28 sets) subway vehicles to be operated between Taksim and Yenikapı by İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality and 75 pieces (25 sets) electric powered trains sets (suburban) vehicles were manufactured within the framework of joint manufacture with Southern Korea Hyundai-Rotem Company.
In 2007, within the scope of supporting the public institutions research projects programme, the project titled “Examination of passenger coaches under static and dynamic loads” and accepted by TÜBİTAK enabled the reporting transactions for stress analysis of the passenger coaches in the computer media, tests of high speeds crash and comfort under road conditions. Furthermore tests have been carried out on the goods by means of static test stand as of 2009.

In 2010, by manufacturing the extra voltage energy supply units to be utilized at European Railways, tests of them were performed under road conditions (UIC voltage convertor).

In 2010, Construction of Climatic Test Tunnel where the air conditioning systems of rail vehicles will be tested has begun in collaboration with Sakarya University, Uludağ University and TÜVASAŞ, and this application was submitted to the Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Institute.
The Diesel Train Set (DMU) vehicle project for which the manufacturing was started in 2010 includes totally 84 vehicles 12 of which are triple and 12 of which are quadruplet. It is planned to deliver these vehicles to Turkish State Railways (TCDD) by having completed their manufacturing process by the end of 2012.

For Marmaray project, manufacture of 275 vehicles began in 2010 at our facilities in accordance with the agreement, within the framework of joint manufacture with Hyundai-Rotem Company.

TÜVASAŞ has a capacity of manufacturing 65 coaches and repairing 500 coaches annually within a total area of 359.073 m2, 79.197 m2 of which is indoor space.

TÜVASAŞ which performed manufacture of 1.784 passenger coaches and maintenance, repair, revision and modernization works of 35.274 passenger coaches for TCDD which has a position as both investor and the only customer of it, by the end of 2010 not only makes significant contributions to our national economy but also saves our country from being dependent on foreign countries in terms of rail vehicles.
