Turkey High-speed train project : Bursa high-speed train project, which when completed will reduce travel time between Bursa and Ankara to two-and-a-half hours, has been unveiled by the Bursa Municipality.

According to a statement made by Bursa Governor Şahabettin Harput on Sunday, the groundbreaking ceremony for the foundation of the station will take place on Dec. 16, with the project completion date projected to be late 2015. “The first leg of the project will run between Bursa and Yenişehir. It will cover a distance of 75 kilometers and come at a cost of TL 393 million. In its final stage, the entire project is estimated to cost around TL 800 million. Normally a bus journey from Bursa to Ankara takes five-and-a-half hours but after the completion of the project this will be reduced to two-and-a-half hours with the high-speed trains. This has been a dream for the residents of Bursa for years,” added Harput.

Turkey launched its first high-speed rail line between the cities of Ankara and Eskişehir in 2009. A second high-speed rail line connecting the capital Ankara with the Central Anatolian city of Konya was launched in August 2011. Turkish State Railways (TCDD), affiliated with the Ministry of Transportation, plans to invest $100 billion in transportation by 2023, the centennial of the Turkish Republic. The government aims to connect east to west and north to south, the largest land and railway strategy ever in Turkey. China and Russia are among the countries interested in undertaking these projects.
