Siemens wins new contract in Qatar

Siemens Rail Systems has received an order from the Qatar Foundation for the turnkey construction of a tram system in the capital Doha.  The order is worth more than EUR 100 Million.

The contract stipulates the development of a 11.5-km long line, as well as the supply of signalling and communications systems and power supply. Lines will be served by 19 double-articulated trams each with an overall length of 27.7 m.  The trams will be equipped with the Sitras HES energy storage system from Siemens. Each tram has a capacity of up to 239 passengers. These Avenio trams will be specially equipped to cope with the country’s climate conditions. In addition to an extra powerful air-conditioning system, special sun shades on the roof will protect the electrical equipment from radiant heat.

The line will be put into service starting with the autumn of 2015.
