Siemens expands Vienna light rail facility

Siemens plans to invest around 50 meters to increase the capacity of its Vienna plant, as announced by the head of the new Metro, Coaches & Light Rail (MCL) business unit, Sandra Gott-Karlbauer. Thus the aluminium bodyshell assembly and finishing workshops are to be expanded, along with related logistics facilities.

Siemens is looking to grow its activities in the short-distance rail sector by around 50 percent in the coming years, identifying opportunities in Europe and Asia in particular. The MCL business unit headquartered in Vienna is part of the new Rail Systems Division and also manages facilities in Graz (Austria), Erlangen and Krefeld (Germany), Paris and Lille (France), Bratislava (Slovakia), Sacramento (USA) and in Beijing, Shanghai and Zhuzhou (China).
