Railroad project will adjust Azerbaijan`s direct link to Europe from Turkish territories

“Turkey and Azerbaijan has already determined route of the Railroad project which will link Nakhchivan with Kars of Turkey” told Binali Yildirim, Turkish Minister of Transport, Communications and Maritime in his interview to Azerbaijani-Turkish Entrepreneurs Association (ATIB) “EcoVision” journal.

After completion of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railroad project and “Marmara” tunnel, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia will emerge to most liable and stable countries on the Asia-Europe route. According to Minister, Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway enables full use of the region`s transportation potential.

“Combination of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars rail link project with “Marmara” railroad tunnel construction will increase its provision”, Mr. Yildirim noted.

The sides have already determined points of Kars-Nakhchivan project. The project will involve Kars-Susuz-Dilucu-Nakhchivan route while its extent will be 223,6 kilometers.

A new 105 km rail line in frames of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project is planned to construct. Georgia`s “Akhalkalaki-Marabda-Tbilisi”, railroad part will be reconstructed which will enhance its capability for 15 millions tons in a year. Its peak capacity will be up to 17 millions loads in a year. In the beginning phase the indicator will be one million passengers and 6,5 million loads.
Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) is in the blockade because of occupation of 20 percents Azerbaijan`s territories by Armenia. The ties with NAR are carried out by air, or automobile transport through Iran.
