Pact for Bucharest was launched

On May 30, the Platform for Bucharest launched the Pact for Bucharest 2, a document presenting the main development directions that the Romanian Capital should follow over the next four years. The Pact for Bucharest 2 is structured on eight chapters: decision transparency, urban planning, construction procedures, mobility and transport, environment protection, patrimony protection, social protection and protection of animals, said the representative of the organisation, Irina Zamfirescu. “For transport, for example, the extremely poor quality of the cycling lanes is absolutely obvious. We either have to remove the existing ones or move them on the road, a solution has to be found, because the way they are, they are not operational. Public transport has to be improved, while individual transport discouraged. These are things happening all over the European capitals”, she said. According to her, all the 45 organisations part of the Pact for Bucharest could no capture the attention of the General Mayor Sorin Oprescu in these last four years of mandate.

The Platform for Bucharest is a coalition set up in 2007 including 45 non-governmental organisations which militate for a participative democracy in all the decisions made in Bucharest.
