Non-federal railways see major modernisation need

The non-federally-owned railways in Germany see an urgent need for investment in their infrastructure. The catalogue
produced by the approximately 50 railway companies contains over 230 measures that would need to be embarked on as soon as possible.

This emerges from the second survey of non-federal railways in Germany since 2009 by the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV). The Association puts the annual amount that needs to be invested in the non-federal infrastructure at around EUR 150 million.

In this regard, the VDV is once again calling on the federal government to put the necessary legislation in place for the fi nancing of the non-federallyowned railway infra-structure. In the short term, the VDV says, this would mean implementing a separate funding directive.
