Kazakhstan Railways finances investments by increasing tariffs
Railway cargo transportation tariffs will increase by 15 percent in Kazakhstan starting with April 1, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) reported on Friday. Rail network services will rise by 9.6 percent.
The tariffs are rising due to the need to modernise and renew the production assets of the railway industry: the main network, carriages and locomotives fleet envisaged by the transport infrastructure development program in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2010-2014 approved by the Governmental Resolution.
According to the program, rail fares should be annually increased by average 15 percent. The company plans to increase investments in modernization and renewal of railway infrastructure to KZT 382 Billion (EUR 1.93 Billion) in 2012.
