Four Spanish companies fight for California’s high-speed corridor

In the first phase of the execution for the development of California’s high-speed line, four companies are prepared to present their offer: Ferrovial and Acciona lead together one of the five shortlisted consortia, called California Backbone Builders. ACS will participate with its subsidiaries Dragados and Flatiron, in collaboration with Shimmick company in the USA. Comsa Emte will enter the tender with its consortium California High Speed Venture next to Kiewit and Granite companies in the USA.

The first section which is 46-km long is estimated at USD 1.5 Billion (EUR 1.2 Billion). The contract would be granted at the end of this year.

The project stipulates the construction of 1,330 km between Sacramento and San Diego and includes investments of USD 68 Billion (EUR 54.8 Billion). The first phase would enter operation in 2017. Initial phases will be completed using public funds and the next stages will be conceded to private entrepreneurs.
