First test for railway high-speed cargo transport services between France and Great Britain

At the end of last month, Euro Carex organisation, which regroups political authorities, airports and railway operators, tested the possibility of introducing railway freight transport services using high-speed trains.
A high-speed train carrying 120 tonnes of freight connected Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport and St. Pancras railway station in London.

The travel time, 8 h 30 m, was four times shorter than when using conventional cargo trains.
If the project proves successful, cargo transport services using high-speed trains will be possible starting with 2015 on the route Paris-Lyon,-London-Amsterdam-Brussels-Frankfurt.
