First ETCS Level 2 installation in Hungary

Between now and the end of 2015, the Szajol – Püspökladány line in Hungary will be equipped with ETCS Level 2. On
behalf of the Hungarian (National Infrastructure Development Company (NIF), Thales Austria will implement the

Eighty-fi ve per cent of the cost is coming out of EU funds. This is the first ETCS Level 2 project for Hungarian State Railways MÁV. ETCS Level 1 was first installed by MÁV six years ago on the Vienna – Budapest route. The 66 kilometre long Szajol – Püs-pökladany line (part of the Budapest – Debrecen link) is double-track and electrified. Elektra 5 type electronic interlockings will be installed, together with an operations control centre at Püspökladány station.
